June 24, 2020 - Career Opportunity Posting: Roads & Parks Manager - closes July 15, 2020  

May 27, 2020 - Beginning June 1st, 2020, the office will be open to ONE PERSON at a time for those who require to use the debit machine to pay for utilities and/or taxes or who require assistance.                                                                                                                                               Physical Distancing line-up "dots" will be in place in the hallway and outside the Ridge entrance. To speed the line-up process for yourself and everyone, please have your Home Owner Grant filled out prior to entering the office.                                                                       Please use the hand sanitizer provided.

- Council has waived, by bylaw, all utility billing late payment fees incurred on due dates between April 1st - December 31st, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  - Email inquiries: cyoung@barriere.ca

April 21, 2020 - TNRD PRESS RELEASE re: Eco-Depot once again permitting disposal of Yard Waste.

NOTICE - JUNE 19, 2020 12pm (noon) :   The category 2 burn ban has been lifted. You may now have campfires and category 2 fires that are no larger than 2 metres high by 3 metres wide.

Never leave your fire unattended and be sure to have an adequate water source.  


PUBLIC UPDATE: June 19, 2020 - 
Stage 2 Watering Restrictions REMAIN in Effect  

While progress has been made on the community's new well development at Bradford Park, more conditioning is required. In order to best protect these new wells in this crucial stage of their development, it is the advice of IHA, Engineers and well experts that the stress of irrigation must be avoided for the time being.  The protection of safe, reliable drinking water and fire protection is paramount and resident's continued patience is deeply appreciated. Every effort is being made to ensure the proper development of these wells so that irrigation can resume safely as soon as possible.

***DISTRICT OFFICE CLOSURE*** - as of March 18, 2020

As a result of the rapidly changing situation around COVID-19, the District of Barriere Office located at 4936 Barriere Town Road, "the Ridge", will be closed to the public starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020 until further notice.  Phone lines will still be open during normal office hours.  
             - Utility payments can be made via online banking, via credit card on the District's website, by mail or by dropping off your payment at the secure drop-box located at the Ridge's entrance. If none of these payment options work for you please call the office to discuss an alternative that will. 
             - Questions regarding your account, bylaw matters, or any other business of the municipality, can be made either by phoning staff (250) 672-9751 or by email: inquiry@barriere.ca to have your inquiry forwarded to the appropriate department. 
             - Water, wastewater and solid waste (garbage & recycling) services will not be disrupted. 

All Meetings of Council will be held via teleconference until further notice.  Details on teleconferencing will be made available at a future date on this page. 
The District of Barriere would like to remind residents of the importance of frequent hand washing and social distancing. Residents returning from out of Country are asked to self-isolate for at least 14 days.  Tenants of "the Ridge" (YCS, NTACS and District of Barriere) ask that any resident who feels unwell or may have been in recent contact with someone feeling unwell, to avoid coming into "The Ridge" building.

 January 3, 2020 - Barriere Community Water Quality - Comprehensive Report
* A detailed water analysis of our community's water was undertaken at two separate points in our water system (the north and south ends) and reported to Interior Health. Before lighting a fire in the Kamloops Fire Center (includes Barriere and surrounding area), ensure the following:

**Check with local authorities (fire department, municipality or regional district) for any local restriction, bylaws or regulations.
**If planning to conduct a Category 3 burn, one must obtain an active burn registration number ahead of time (at no charge) by calling 1-888-797-1717. Burn registration numbers are entered in the Open Fire Tracking System which allows the BC Wildfire Service to track open burning activity throughout B.C.

2018 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI)

                 UPDATE - August 15, 2019

The Spruce Crescent well is at the moment the sole supplier of water to our system (hence the Stage 2 Water Restrictions), and has very low concentrations of Manganese. The previous June 4th update stated testing showed the levels of Manganese in our water system to be well below the Health Canada Maximums (MAC) we were originally concerned about from an infant health perspective. The provision of coupons for water has been discontinued.

The District continues to send samples for testing and will report back to you on this page of any change in this advisory. This notice will be updated as required.
Please continue to notify the District office should your water be overly tea coloured or you have additional questions.
