2020 Barriere & Area Housing Needs Report 

The original 2020 Housing Needs Report was undertaken to establish the current and emerging housing needs in the Barriere Area and to assist in identifying housing priorities for TNRD Electoral Area O” and the District of Barriere, inclusive of the Simpcw First Nation community of Chu Chua.

It defines the affordability issues and gaps in the existing supply and should help with applications for funding and assist housing developers and other stakeholders in creating viable and affordable housing solutions in the Barriere Area.

The report is also designed as an action planning tool for further community engagement and a resource for affordable housing project proposals and funding applications.

2024 Housing Needs Report Update

Under the Province of BC, Bill 44 Housing Statutes (Residential Development) Amendment Act required all local governments to update their housing needs reports using a standardized methodology over a 20-year time horizon to better understand and address housing needs throughout British Columbia. This work was required to be complete by the end of 2024.

Yellowhead Pioneer Residence Society

Yellowhead Pioneer Residence Society is a non-profit organization providing independent housing and assisted living for seniors.  The residence is located in Barriere, in the North Thompson valley, 40 minutes from Kamloops.  The building is next door to the medical centre, and within a block of the pharmacy, grocery store, library, credit union and post office.  There 12 independent units and 10 assisted living apartments.
